What do Sam Spade, James Bond, and Father Brown have in common? Their creators have birthdays the last week in May.

On May 27, to celebrate Samuel Dashiell Hammett’s birthday, mystery fans may want to read The Maltese Falcon, published in novel form in 1930, or watch the 1941 movie featuring Humphrey Bogart.

On May 28, celebrate Ian Fleming’s birthday by binge-watching all the James Bond films, or the purest may want to call up the 1967 film adaptation of the first Bond story, Casino Royale. A fun fact many do not know is that Fleming also wrote the children’s story Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang in 1964.

Then, on May 29, dust off your favorite Father Brown mystery, written from 1910 to 1936, to celebrate Gilbert Keith (G. K.) Chesterton’s birthday.
