A Valentine’s Day Gift for My Readers

A Free Dickens Station Romantic Short Story

It’s Valentine’s Day at Dickens Station, one year after the passing of one of the tiny Vermont village’s beloved residents, Evan Marley. An accident at the Marley farm forces Evan’s widow, Leah, to question her deepening relationship with a long-time friend, Mason Carver. Mason has been Leah’s rock since Evan’s passing. Has Mason’s high school crush for Leah rekindled during her year-long dependence on his muscular arms and patient listening ear, or has her best friend’s devotion been charity, fulfilling a promise Mason made to Evan before he passed? Are the Valentine’s Day charms that keep appearing Evan’s warning from beyond the grave for Leah to remain faithful?

In honor of Valentine’s Day, please enjoy this gift of a romantic short story set in the location of my upcoming novel. The fictional little town of Dickens Station, Vermont, is a tiny tourist village offering a Victorian Christmas experience to its visitors. Though it is the off-season for Dickens Station, the wonderfully quirky cast of characters who live there still celebrate Valentine’s Day and have their share of romantic angst. “My Best Friend’s Valentine” is short enough to read in one sitting. I hope you enjoy it. Happy belated Valentine’s Day.
