The sleuth, Taylor Hunter, is a standout—intelligent, highly trained, feminine, physically strong, and mentally tough. She’s the kind of protagonist you’d want as a friend, grounded by strong family bonds and fully capable of kicking butt when necessary. Wilson surrounds this incredibly capable woman with intriguing, well-drawn side characters who add depth to the story. And then there’s the dachshund, Glimmer the Diamond Dog—utterly adorable, full of personality, and brimming with attitude.
The plot unfolds as a satisfying slow burn, revealing an intricate, intellectually engaging mystery involving international diamond smuggling and murder. The pacing is tight and fast, allowing clues to surface naturally while keeping the suspense high. A not-so-subtle thread of romance runs throughout, skirting the line without crossing it, adding just the right hint of emotional interest and depth.
